Earthcare Retail Lead

Working for Lush for seven years, across Retail and Head Office Support teams, Rae currently sits within the Earthcare team at Lush UK&I. A range of experience across a varied career inside and outside Lush has embedded Rae’s passion for shaking up sustainability within the cosmetics industry and beyond. Working alongside industry specialists and internal experts, Rae’s current role is focused on providing environmental best practice insight across the Lush Retail business. ‘As a company, Lush aims to ‘Leave The World Lusher Than We Found It’. Therefore, having a knowledgeable and invested community is key to achieving this vision.’ Through internal communication and external outreach, Rae’s passion lies in facilitating an understanding of the importance of moving beyond sustainability towards regeneration, and, most importantly, turning this understanding into meaningful action. One day working on implementing national packaging schemes, the next creating staff training around regenerative ingredients sourcing and the importance of permaculture - the Lush Earthcare team certainly hold a diverse and ever-flexing role within the wider Lush business

Diana Verde Nieto is the Co-Founder and CEO of Positive Luxury, the company behind the Butterfly Mark, a unique interactive trust mark awarded to luxury lifestyle brands in recognition of their commitment to having a positive impact on people and our planet. The Mark provides wordless reassurance that a brand can be trusted.

Positive Luxury was founded in partnership with Karen Hanton MBE, founder of The two trailblazing entrepreneurs combined their experience and knowledge to use technology to demystify sustainability and positively communicate a brand’s actions directly to the consumer.

Diana’s entrepreneurial spirit has driven innovation in the way that brands communicate their commitment to social and environmental sustainability, enabling organisations to unlock the value of their investment in this area.

This began with founding the first international sustainability communications consultancy in 2002 which Diana built to international success with a presence in five markets, including China and the USA, at the time of exiting the business in 2008.

Diana holds a degree in Global Leadership & Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School. Diana is a globally recognised figure in the sustainability field, honoured by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2011 and subsequently being trained by former US Vice President, Al Gore.

Diana serves on many advisory boards, frequently teaches at Cambridge Judge School and Oxford Said School and was recently given an honorary professorship at Glasgow Caledonian University.

I have been working in the Packaging Industry for over 10 years, in FMCG Food manufacture, Grocery and Luxury Retailing, currently residing at Harrods. I started as a Packaging Technologist at Boots, Nottingham developing cosmetic and healthcare packaging and have since specialised in food retailing packaging technology, sustainable packaging development, procurement and latterly luxury packaging through driving quality and value perceptions for our customers.

Butterfly Cannon

Jenny heads up Butterfly Cannon’s sustainability expertise and leads their Conscious Design™ process to deliver the most sustainable solutions for their craft and prestige client brands. Her design industry experience, focusing on innovation & sustainability, has seen her working with a variety of well-known brands including Burberry, Diageo, Jo Loves, Wagamama and Bang & Olufsen.

Jenny is well known within the production design field, having written multiple articles, sat on industry panels, given lectures and been interviewed on the subject of sustainability, most recently as part of the Pentawards ‘Future of Packaging 2021’ event. She has also been invited to join Pentawards’ first ever sustainable design jury this year.

Creative Director/Founder
SEA Design

Bryan studied Graphic Design at Newcastle Polytechnic. After graduating in 1992 with a First Class honours degree, Bryan joined the London based design agency, Roundel with experience gained at both Williams & Phoa and Imagination where he was part of the small Brand Development team consulting with Ford, BT, Samsung and Coca Cola. In 1997 he founded the brand communications agency SEA. Bryan’s work touches many disciplines from brand identity and art direction to digital, packaging and information design for clients such as Monotype, GF Smith, Regatta, Adidas/Porsche, Matthew Williamson, EMI, Jamie Oliver, Hermés and W Hotel. His work has been widely published and has received recognition in numerous national and international design awards. During his career he has lectured at many UK Universities and at events such as D&AD, Semi Permanent (New Zealand), Typographic Circle, ISTD and the Annual London event, Four Designers. His work is held in Museum Collections such as the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Contemporary Design, New York and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. In 2013 Bryan was also nominated for The Design Museum Designs of the Year for his digital campaign work.

Sustainable Materials Specialist

Paula is WWF-UK’s Sustainable Materials Specialist. As well as working on the Eliminating Waste workstream of the Tesco partnership, she provides internal and external technical expertise on materials issues including plastics, with her policy and advocacy work focusing more broadly on resources and waste. Her background is in packaging and product development, working at several touchpoints of the packaging supply chain and within FMCG and retail for over 20 years at businesses including Proctor & Gamble, Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer and Pret. Her food retail experience over the past 10 years has given her the opportunity to get involved in sustainability-focused industry initiatives such as WRAP’s Glassrite project and coffee cup recycling. And she was heavily involved in shaping the industry’s response to that Blue Planet II moment when the plastic pollution problem became a mainstream environmental issue. Upon joining the WWF, she fulfilled a lifelong ambition to work for an NGO and feels very privileged to have this opportunity.

The 2020 winner of the Packaging Innovations 30 under 30 award and UK Packaging Awards Rising Star, Amelia is Commercial Director at Garçon Wines, the multi award-winning British start-up that exists to make the wine industry more sustainable in a 21st century world, through innovating in wine packaging, starting with bottles which are the single largest contributor to wine’s carbon footprint. To this aim, they are the inventors of planet-friendly bottles that are uniquely flat to save space and made entirely from recycled PET, pre-existing not single-use plastic, to save weight and energy. These shatterproof bottles are an advancement that is respectful of the wine industry's heritage and a packaging industry benchmark of shape innovation and best-in-class material. With offices in London and San Francisco, the passionate and professional team are taking their IP-protected flat bottle portfolio and sustainable wine packaging solutions through a multi-country, -channel and -brand commercial strategy.

Robert Cooper is a senior designer at Seymourpowell, having joined the design and innovation agency after graduating from Central Saint Martins. Taking a strategic and multidisciplinary approach to design, Robert’s work spans a broad range of projects, from award winning conceptual packaging design that explores the intersection of sustainability, technology and emerging trends, to packaging innovation for global brands such as Diageo, Lurpak and PepsiCo.

Founded in 2018 by Tiila Abbitt, a passionate, highly creative product development professional with 11+ years' experience- including the international prestige beauty industry. Tiila has a BFA in sculpture and an MFA in fashion design. She worked in the fashion industry for over 5 years before transitioning to beauty. She is highly passionate for the sustainable beauty product realm. Tiila spent 7 years at Sephora in charge of product development for makeup collaborations and accessories. Her obsession with sustainability lead her to become the lead R+D for sustainable materials while also being on the sustainability leadership council for the retailer.

Packaging, in all shapes and forms, flows through Duncan's veins with generations of knowledge having been passed on to him. A rare talent in the art of innovation, Duncan creates truly wonderful packaging and his ability to problem solve means that no task is too small or too difficult. Duncan can be credited for introducing new techniques that have solved the issues faced by countless clients in the past. Any problem that presents itself, Duncan is on hand to offer solutions and think of new methods to realise the final product. If Duncan isn't inventing some new innovative packaging technique, he is usually found in the garden befriending foxes and spiders.

Since starting his career in the gifting and packaging industry in the mid-90s in Asia, Paul has developed hundreds of technically complex products and introduced innovative supply chain solutions for some of the world’s biggest brands. Paul gained much of his experience by running a large Chinese-based manufacturing organisation which has given him a unique perspective on all aspects of product development and manufacturing. Paul is passionate about packaging sustainability and is an Ambassador of the Sustainable Procurement Pledge. Paul’s projects have won several luxury packaging awards including the Jack Daniel’s Jukebox for Technical Achievement at the Luxury Packaging Awards 2020.

Founder and lead expert Tracy Sutton set up Root in 2013 to help organisations use less and focus on becoming regenerative, inclusive and kinder to people and our planet.

A regular speaker at international conferences and a respected commentator in the national and trade media, Tracy is a high-profile industry expert at the forefront of innovative and sustainable packaging design with twenty years of hands-on knowledge.

Tracy and the Root team have delivered projects for Diageo, Pukka and Pepsico. Tracy is a regular speaker at international conferences, active in policy influence working groups and a respected commentator in the national and trade media. She is a guest lecturer at Falmouth University and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

A Plastic Planet

In 2016 Sian co-founded A Plastic Planet; is a global campaign organisation with a single goal - to ignite and inspire the world to turn off the plastic tap. As entrepreneurs, they bring a fresh pro-business solutions-focused approach to environmental issues. A Plastic Planet are highly vocal in the world’s media, working collaboratively with industry, retailers, Governments, legislators and the UN; to accelerate the pace of change at all levels. Recognised in The 2019 Fast Company Awards and winners of International Campaign of the Year, A Plastic Planet created the infamous Plastic Free Aisle campaign, opening this catalyst for supermarket change in Amsterdam early 2018. They also launched the Plastic Free Trust Mark for brands, with over 1000 already certified, and the Industry Commitment Mark ‘Working Towards Plastic Free’. A Plastic Planet is a key founding partner in the Plastic Health Coalition, bringing together the world’s scientists, doctors to irrefutably prove the impact of plastic toxicity on human health.


Victor brings decades of experience to the company, providing passion and expertise within the packaging and industrial laminated product sectors. His vision has enabled LLFlex to ‘shine’ over the years. Victor’s particular experience within retail and luxury packaging materials has provided LLFex with an innovative and strong competitive edge across all key markets. Sustainability is and has been a very strong criteria within the business. Victor together with the technical and sales teams’ at LLFlex provide expert help and advice to all of their international packaging customers.

Pollard Boxes

Tan Mahal is the Creative Designer at Pollard Group. He joined the company as a CAD Designer five years ago, developing his role to become the group’s lead creative designer. He now adds value to Pollards’ clients, including ghd, Chivas and Hotel Chocolat, by offering structural, material and special finish support. Tan uses his knowledge of manufacturing capabilities whilst flexing his creative muscles to specialise in concept creation with his added material knowledge. One of his aims as a designer is to create more sustainable luxury packaging during the design process by taking into consideration the packaging needs and the type of material sourced. Tan’s previous experience includes at Nestlé, which is where his love for Product Design evolved into a passion for Packaging Design.

BillerudKorsnäs AB

Louise is an engineer with a MSc in Biotechnology from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. She has been with BillerudKorsnäs since 2011 in roles such as process engineer, technical service manager and sustainability manager. Louise has among other things been crucial in the work to set BillerudKorsnäs’ Science Based Targets in 2017 and is today focused on working with sustainability on the commercial side of BillerudKorsnäs where she is active in developing the sustainability agenda focusing on product development, customer needs and circular economy. Her passion is to drive sustainability throughout the company, ensuring that the company contributes to a sustainable future.
