The UK Packaging Awards celebrate excellence across the packaging sector
and are split into two categories, Performance Awards and Quality Awards.

The Performance Awards reward business financial performance and strategy, outstanding company projects and individual achievement.
Entrants to the Performance Awards categories must be companies registered in the UK, with either a UK or overseas ownership.
To enter you must complete the online entry form which will involve submitting a 500 word summary for the year under review (on or after 1 May 2018). Details of what to include in your summary can be found in the category description for each award.
The Performance Awards are:
- Co-Pack & Fulfilment Company of the Year
- CSR Initiative of the Year
- Design Team of the Year
- Development Team of the Year
- Investment Project of the Year
- Outstanding Contribution to the Industry
- Packaging Company
- Rising Star Award
- SME of the Year
The Quality Awards recognise excellence in packaging design, production and innovation and are open to anyone involved in packaging production, specification or design.
For the Quality Awards, the company who has produced the packs remain anonymous to the judges, ensuring that judging is purely based on the quality of the pack, and not the company behind it.
To enter an award, you must complete the online entry form which will involve submitting a 300 word summary. Details of what to include in your summary can be found in the category description for each award.
You will be required to provide details of who has been involved in creating the pack, including names of material suppliers, manufacturers, designers and clients. Please note, judges will not be given this information.
You may enter a single pack into a maximum of two categories. Unless stated otherwise, you will be asked to submit two samples of the entire filled pack per category. If you are entering perishable items, please inform Emma Parslow who will advise on arrangements.
For all categories, unless otherwise stated, judges will be looking for the pack that offers the optimal solution to its brief and will consider a range of relevant aspects including:
• Shapes and structures
• Print and production quality
• Graphics and decoration
• Shelf stand-out
• Useability and openability
• Product protection
• Supply chain efficiency
• Innovation and originality
• Environmental impact
• Added value to the brand
All entries to the Quality Awards must have been launched commercially – that is, be in use in supply chains for real products or be available on retailers’ shelves during the year under review (products launched on or after 1 May 2018). Companies’ own promotional work is not eligible. The only exception to this rule is the Best New Concept award, which is specifically for packaging products that have not yet been launched onto the market.
Finally, with the exception of category J, Metal Pack of the Year, and categories Na and Nb, the Glass Pack of the Year categories, all entrants must be able to demonstrate that the pack was either manufactured in the UK, developed in the UK (for example by a UK-based packaging development team at a brand or retailer) or designed in the UK (for example by a UK-based design agency). In addition, the pack must be entered into the competition by the UK-based entity involved in its creation.
The only exceptions to this are: category J, the Metal Pack of the Year category, which is only open to members of the EMPAC association and must have been produced in countries covered by the EMPAC (European Metal Packaging) association; and categories Na and Nb, the Glass Pack of the Year categories, which are only open to packs manufactured in the UK.
